Special Issue: ISI 140 Years
Special Issue: Celebrating 140 Years of the International Statistical Institute – Advances in Theory and Applications
The International Statistical Institute (ISI) has played a central role in advancing the development, dissemination, and application of statistics worldwide, particularly in Latin America and Caribbean. Founded in 1885, ISI has a long tradition of promoting excellence in statistical research, fostering collaborations among academics, practitioners, and policymakers. Throughout its 140-year history, the Institute has continually supported the growth of statistical science through its journals, conferences, and specialized societies. Its flagship event, the World Statistical Congress, has become a prominent forum for exchanging ideas and presenting cutting-edge statistical methodologies across disciplines and regions.
Over the years, ISI has particularly contributed to strengthening the statistical community in Latin America and Caribbean, facilitating collaborations between institutions and promoting high-quality research. By connecting statisticians from diverse fields and fostering interdisciplinary approaches, ISI has been instrumental in translating theoretical advances into impactful applications in public health, economics, environmental sciences, and other fields.
In recognition of this remarkable legacy, the Revista Colombiana de Estadística is pleased to announce a special issue dedicated to celebrating the ISI's 140th anniversary. This issue seeks to highlight the contributions of the global statistical community, with a particular emphasis on advances in theoretical and applied statistics that reflect the diversity, relevance, and transformative power of our discipline. We welcome submissions from researchers worldwide who present new methodologies, innovative applications, and interdisciplinary approaches in keeping with the spirit of the ISI. By bringing together a collection of high-quality contributions, this special issue aims to honor the Institute's history while also looking ahead to future developments that will continue to shape the field of statistics in the years to come.
